Valentine’s Day or Single Awareness Day?
So it’s that time of year again. When roses cost the same as a small car and chocolate is in your face everywhere.
Years ago when I was younger I had a flower shop – Valentine’s Day caused me such mixed emotions.
Bad – because I was still single and most of my friends were either married or in a relationship. Good because…hello – I owned a flower shop.
Unfortunately, I allowed the bad to affect me for way too long.
I allowed my insecurities to take hold and thought less of myself because I didn’t have a man in my life.
I allowed my opinion of men, in general, to be affected by the men that would come into my shop after stopping at 7-11 to get their beer and realized – damn! Need to pick up something for the girlfriend/wife. And there was a lot of them and I was young and easily convinced.
But as the years passed, I realized not all men are thoughtless and selfish.
And somewhere along the way, I became okay with my singlehood. I realized my worth is not defined by whether or not there is a man in my life.
I realized that I could change my perception.
And isn’t that a wonderful superpower to have! One that we need to use more often.
Nowadays – I treat myself to my favorite candy – salted caramels, like these shown by Deliciously Yum. And I buy myself some flowers or a pretty plant. Maybe even go crazy and have a spa treatment.
And I no longer cringe(too much) when I see red roses.
So whether you are celebrating Valentine’s Day or Single Awareness Day; enjoy the day with joy and love and treat yourself and/or your honey to something besides red roses.
Here are a few fun treats I found searching the web.
