5 New Fall Plant Introductions for 2018

Fall is almost here.  YAY!  Fall is one of my favorite seasons.  Fall weather is my friend, I can garden a lot in the fall.

The first three plants are from Plant Delights Nursery and the link will take you to Tony Avent’s website – you might get lost for days on his site.  The plant variety is just so amazing.  The last two are from Burpee.

Cumberland Rosemary  – Cumberland Rosemary is a prostrate Rosemary.  How cool is that?  So you can plant it in rock gardens, along a sidewalk, anywhere it will get sun and heat.  Rosemary also needs good drainage, no wet feet for her! She will tolerate a large range of temperatures.  Cumberland grows in 6b to 8b zones,  Pennsylvania to Kansas down to Texas and back to Georgia, along with various areas on the West Coast.
Crested Hart’s Tongue Fern   – another introduction from Tony.  This is going in my side yard.  It is a long and somewhat narrow piece of land with lots of shade and a bit of light.  Moist soil, but good drainage, which is good for ferns.  Tony says it gets to be about 10” tall and is evergreen!  I’ll let you know if that’s true next spring!
Blue Butterflies Bluebeard – Wow!  Try saying that several times.  And WOW what a great plant.   The color of the blooms is amazing.  While some Caryopteris are woody shrubs – Tony labels this one as a herbaceous perennial.  He also states that it is deer-resistant…which is always a plus for me.
Tiger-Eye Viola – I don’t even know what to say about this one!  I absolutely love pansies, violas and Johnny-jump-ups.   But this one leaves me gasping it is so spectacular.  Imagine pots just filled with this beauty on your front steps along with some fall grasses and cabbages.  Yum.  What makes also add to its awesomeness – it can handle sun!
Peacock Butterfly Painted Woman Iris – Irises have never been a favorite of mine.  We have too many of the same ugly one in my backyard growing up.  But this one?  I just might have to buy.  I love flowers where their veins are different colors – just blows me away.  And look at all the colors in this.  Light yellow, blues, rose, gold, red.  This beauty grows to 24” and spreads 8”-12”.  And give her plenty of sun for strong stems.
